Her Craft

Stitching The Future

Founded by Taiba Rahmani, a 14-year-old Afghan-American living in Arlington, VA, Her Craft, operating under the legal name Woven Vibes LLC is a purpose-driven for-profit business dedicated to empowering Afghan girls and young women by investing in their education, skill development, and financial independence. We go beyond simply purchasing handmade crafts at fair market value in Afghanistan. For every product sold, we allocate one-third of the profit directly to our artisans, empowering them to pursue educational goals and develop valuable skills to transform their futures.

In addition, a portion of revenue is used every four years to sponsor one or two Afghan girls to receive a life-changing education in the United States. This dual approach ensures both immediate support for artisans and long-term opportunities for girls to break free from cycles of poverty and oppression.

We believe in transparency and accountability. We share detailed revenue data annually, including the exact amounts allocated to our mission. This guarantees our customers and supporters see the tangible impact of their contributions, fostering trust and shared purpose.

Our Purpose

Her Craft is dedicated to addressing the severe vulnerabilities Afghan girls face in a country where systemic oppression under Taliban rule has stripped them of fundamental rights. Girls are banned from schooling beyond the sixth grade, confined to their homes, and often face the looming threats of forced marriage due to poverty or societal pressures.

Through education, skill development, and economic empowerment, Her Craft offers these girls a pathway to independence and hope for a brighter future while safeguarding and promoting their cultural heritage

  • Education Sponsorship: Provide Afghan girls with the opportunity to study in the U.S., granting them access to personal and academic growth that is unavailable in Afghanistan.
  • Skill Development: Equip girls with practical expertise in handicraft production and business management to help them sustain themselves and their families
  • Financial Independence: Enable artisans to earn income from the sale of their crafts, lifting them and their families out of poverty.

Our Vision

To be a global leader in ethical and sustainable handmade goods, bridging cultural gaps and empowering underserved communities.

Our Mission

  • Empower Through Education: Provide Afghan girls with the tools and opportunities to break free from cycles of poverty by sponsoring their education in the U.S.
  • Economic Upliftment: Bring artisans’ handmade goods to global markets, offering them a sustainable income source.
  • Foster Skills and Self-Sufficiency: Train artisans in traditional craftsmanship and modern business practices to ensure long-term independence.
  • Protect from Forced Marriages: Offer financial alternatives to families, reducing the risks of daughters being forced into marriage due to economic desperation.
  • Preserve Afghan Culture: Highlight and celebrate the artistry of Afghan women, ensuring their cultural heritage is recognized and valued worldwide.

The Challenges We Address

Afghan girls, particularly those aged 12 to 26, live in a society where poverty, repression, and societal norms severely limit their potential. Many families are compelled by economic hardship to arrange marriages for their daughters, often to much older men or Taliban soldiers, depriving them of their independence and dignity.

Her Craft combats these challenges by creating a platform for young women to showcase their talents, earn a sustainable income, and access education—breaking the cycle of dependence and oppression.

How Her Craft Works

  1. Fair Trade Purchasing: We buy artisans’ handmade crafts at Afghanistan’s fair market price to provide immediate income and recognition for their work
  2. Profit Allocation: One-third of the profit from each product sold is invested directly in artisans’ education and skill development.
  3. Education Sponsorship: Revenue also funds the education of one or two Afghan girls in the U.S., depending on income generated every four years
  4. Skill Development: We train young women in both traditional handicraft production and modern business management, equipping them to succeed in local and global markets

The Impact

Her Craft is not just a business—it’s a bridge to a brighter future. Each purchase contributes directly to empowering young women through education, skill development, and economic independence. Every product sold represents a step toward preserving Afghan culture, safeguarding artisans’ dignity, and transforming vulnerable girls’ lives.

By transparently sharing our revenue generation and the exact amounts devoted to our mission, we ensure that every customer becomes a partner in this transformative journey. Together, we are not just stitching products; we are stitching a future of hope, independence, and empowerment for Afghan girls and their communities.
